I'm a bit biased to Clive Owen, I love his acting although this actor did not take or play a proper role yet, I feel that he has a lot of potentials. The movie is about an Interpol agent who gets in too deep into financing weapons. It starts with the death of his partner that later on reveals a bigger game that he can not play fair. The movie was good but needed a sharper plot, when it came to half way I knew how will it end. All in all I enjoyed it, a nice movie to see and the plain Clive can act :)

8 days

Been 8 days since I last posted, for some reason I was busy with every thing but the things I really care about and love doing. My health is a strong alibi to justify my crowded schedule, but its nothing serious! I still have to adjust and find time to my dear blog and blog readers, after all having an eye to read what I write matters :)

I have to sign out now, real life is taking me from the virtual one, but will be back soon :> will chat over what I like and don't just as I used to do, keep it simple and chill :>

Left the dietitian for good, will keep on monitoring what I eat along with the gym. In 3 months I should get some nice results.

Pecha Kucha, I attended the Pecha Kucha second night in Kuwait, it was a pretty cool event I mostly liked two guys, Monstar and Ahmed Alrefaie work. Many thanks to Dr. Aseel Al-Ragum for introducing such a lovely inspiring even to Kuwait and also the students who helped out, also the the extraordinary coverage in Youtube, Facebook :) last but not least Ahmed Alrefaie's work will have a full post, I was simply impressed and amazed by his creativity and details :)

إسم مألوف لمواليد ما قبل فترة الثمانينات، إعلامي كويتي ذاع صيته في أعماله الثورية على الحركة الإعلامية الكويتية، ثورية بقيمتها و نوعيتها الفريدة، كتب عنة في في السنة السابقة المدون العزيز بو مريوم، و النقاش الدائر في تلك المقالة يشير لمدى اعجاب اللي سمعوا و شافوا أعمال المحيلان في ذاك الوقت

شلون دريت عن المحيلان و انا مواليد ١٩٨٠؟ و برنامجة الإذاعي اللي اشتهر صيته و تعدى شهرة اي برنامج اذاعي آخر في تلك الفترة!؟ من أمي :) لي فترة قريبة و اهي تسولف عن الأشرطة اللي كانت عندها وتحتوي تسجيلات لبرنامج عبدالله المحيلان، و تعاتب اخوي انه ضيعهم و انهم ما يتقدرون بثمن، و تذكرت صوته! شلون مادري! بس قلت لها يما جني سمعتج اتشغلين برنامج فيه واحد دمة خفيف و كنت اضحك معاج و انا ما افهم نص الكلام، بس لانها كانت تظحك، خبال جهّال! المهمممممم قررت انبش النت و اكتب عنة مقالة اتعرف الجيل الجديد بمنو أهو عبدالله المحيلان

استانست على موقعه الشخصي و اللي قاعد يكبر يوم بعد يوم، و اتمنى يكون مرجع و ارشيف لكامل أعماله، و هم مقابلتة الأخيرة اللي كانت في قناة الوطن ببرنامج تو الليل في شهر ابريل من هالسنة و شكثر تحسفت انها طافتني بس اشكر اللي حطهم بيوتيوب :) فعلا مقابلة خفيفة و حملت الكثير من الذكريات للناس و حسستنا بمدى جمال إبداع المحيلان، البسيط بالتعبير و العميق في المعنى

كويتي تخرج بتخصص المسرح من مصر، و اشتغل بالاعلام في دولة الكويت، و اهتوته البرامج الوثائقية و اللقاءات التلفزيونية و على مدى ٤ سنوات قدم برنامج اذاعي كل يوم خميس اللي كانت متابعته امي و هذي شرارة معرفتي فيه! عن طريق سوالف أمي و تلك التسجيلات التي اتذكرها بضحالة شديدة و يتملكني الفضول لأن اسمعها كاملة. حاليا الموجود بالنت مقتطفات تلفزيونية لأعمال المحيلان لكن برنامجه الإذاعي لازال مجال للبحث و على آمل ان أجد هذه التسجيلات بيوم ما، مما تذكر أمي انه كان ثوريا ببساطة طرحة لمواضيع الشارع الكويتي التي تهم الأسر الكويتية و دمه خفيف و له "كاريزما" خاصة فيه و كان يسولف مثل ما يسولف أي شخص مع الناس المقربين لنا مبتعدا عن الطرح الإعلامي المألوف و المغلف بالجدية و الرزانة و "الحكي المصفصف"، اقترب من القلوب و حرك الكويت بنهاية السبعينات و بداية الثمانينات

عبد الله المحيلان، شخصية إعلامية تستحق التقدير و ان تجمع أعماله، و اللي خلاني افكر فيه اليوم بالذات اهو اجبار سيارة أختي لي باني اسمع الراديو و قمت اتسائل، ليش ما عندنا واحد/ة يسولف و يهذر على روسنا بشي قريب منا، بنوع مختلف، احتاج اسمع من يسولف بخفة دم و يصحينا من الخرابيط اللي نسهى عنها و نسويها و نظحك على روحنا بس ما نفكر نغيرها! مثل اللي يروحون حارة الأمان لما يكون الطريق مزدحم بدون الحاجه لهالشي! بس لانهم يعتقدون انه على راسهم ريشة و انهم يستحقون الوصول قبل غيرهم متجاهلين وجود هالحارة اساسا علشان تكون أمان من المخاطر و طريق للمساعدات من الشرطة و الإسعاف و الإطفاء ،، الخ و مو للمتعاليين على الغير و اللي يعتقدون ان قوانين الازدحام ما تنطبق عليهم :) مثل باقي خلق الله

Car-ache

And so I took my baby car to the dealer for her service and some notes, I'm very attached to my car we have a good relationship and we talk everyday and if we don't then she gets my mental telepathic language. Back to reality so I get surprised that the person I usually deal with is not there today and a colleague of his is substituting him, a very nice person I might say. Except that his tongue was pierced! Don't get me wrong I'm pro freedom of choice I have no comment the act of piercing BUT other than the fact that it feels a bit disgusting to me the mouth as it is, is hard to keep clean let aside with a metal piece inside! but that's not it today ,,, it was so distracting! I could not keep my eyes of that shiny silver thing in there! When ever he talks or tells me a note I keep staring at that wiggly silver dot inside his mouth! and I swept away with the questions of:

- Did it hurt when you did it?
- Didn't you fear infections? with all the substances that go into the mouth?
- Why did you do it? do you think its pretty? or is it a man thing?
- Do you like have a piece that you can attach instead of the round dot and is more like a tooth pick so it can be handy in cleaning between the teeth? because that can be useful :D
- How does it feel to have a new addition to your mouth? every day, every hour, all life long?!

Thank God that I had the notes written on a piece of paper and read them else I would have forgotten all what I was about to say :) apart from that distraction he was a very good service advisor, well "car'ly" educated! very professional and took all the notes using the PC with all those cool tools and screens of what should be done in this service & compared them with what was done in the last one, and was very patient to read all that to me and explain it too :> I liked the pierced tongue guy :D but defiantly will try to keep my focus out of the mouth area, I will use the "between the eyes" area to focus when he talks.

And according to the mighty Wiki Tongue Piercing is pretty ancient, and some Sufi Muslims practiced that act:

Hello Kitty wedding !!

OK I love kitty hmmm more like ADORE her, and even as I type now I have a sticker of the little cute kitten on my laptop, but this is way out of line!

Talkative

And so I'm somewhere in this life with this talkative, sweet girl, but she talks a lot :D however she is smart socially and a good ice breaker also above all she is a great conversation starter, still she talks a lot. Now the talking a lot thing I can handle and can send different messages to clear out when I want to talk and when I don't BUT what I was surprised is of the strong talk urge even when she is yawning! LOL, ok she is sweet and all but was it necessary to see her stomach through her mouth?

Seriously when you yawn I thought you try to avoid showing it to people and probably cover up your mouth or at least look the other way but in her case it was a big mouth wide open :D and wider than the one above which I got from here. It was hilarious she made me laugh :> I lost focus on what she was saying and kept thinking wow, I saw all of her teeth :/

I missed my blog so much, I could not write for a while not due to lack of time or a writer's block thing, but it was more like a re-evaluation period of what is a head and what do I want.

Tora Bora looks like a promising series! I wounder if it would raise the bar high for the Kuwaiti Drama series :) I'm having high hopes after seeing the trailer. However I wish if they would make the gunshot in that trailer more realistic! it wasn't up to the level of the other scenes and overall cinematography.

شنو مشكلتي مع السفر بالصيف : اللي تسافر عنهم بتلقاهم جدامك ، مجتمع كويتي مصغر بس بجو غير جو الكويت :> و حتى انفلونزا الخنازير ماراح توقفهم بيروحون كل مكان و المقتدر عليه بالعافية بس اللي مو مقتدر خل يخاف الله بنفسة و هم حريمهم خل يخافون الله فيهم، كبرنا على التشيحط على غير سنع

This is one cool company and I found it through a FB group that held the designs of a chalet from one hell of a brilliant Kuwaiti designer "Aziz Al-Humaidhi" :D makes me feel so proud, not sure if the house's designs are also his or not. Manazel do not ofer just homes, bove all they define the art of space management and prove that we do not need to live in big houses! a small 500m home can be a GREAT home :)

Horoscpes, who would beleive that just because we were born in the same time period that we would carry simmilar characteristics? moreover we do have a lot of unknowns in this universe, yet I don't buy the horoscope thing.

الفضلة

مقياس الوالدة لمدى لذة غداها من عدمة اهي الفضلة، ف ان ما تم بالصحن شي و بالتالي ماكو فضلة من الغدا معناتة ان الوالدة مزاجها بيصير عال العال و مرتاحة ان الكل شبع و حب اكلها، و سبب تذكري لهالمعلومة الهامة و انا اليوم امشي علشان اقط هالجم كيلو اللي قاعدين على قلبي اهو ثقافة الشبع اللي مفهومها مختلف عندنا عن واقعها

الشبع من الشيئ هو الوصول للإمتلاء و الإكتفاء من الشيئ، و ليس الطفوح منه، فلما يقول احد من اهلنا اكل و اشبع فا اهو/ اهي يقصد انك لازم تطفح، اي اشبع حاجتك و زود

و لي قالوا القناعة كنز لا يفنى صدقوا، لاننا لو اقتنعنا بقدر الأكل الكافي لأنشطتنا اليومية جان ما انتفخنا

Last week

- Met a friend that I did not see for 11 years, she has 5 kids now and exactly the path that she wanted in her life, I was happy for her and amazed how time can carry & change a lot.

- Attending the first Parliament session was interrupted by a delay not from my side @!@ but I was able to follow it up, it was a juicy one with a lot of flicks! Commenting on that and other sessions held till date is kept in a text file inside my PC, weather to publish or not is still debatable in the sense of my wish to keep my blog a very tranquil place, nevertheless this followup and commentary was raised by me :> so in order to followup with the idea of my blog being simple and spontaneous obliges me to publish here and not in a new separate blog.

- I did this terrible silly mistake but ended up being in a better position :p wonder if I will get lucky every time I do something clumbsy.

- I have been going out and doing errands to the extent where I currently have to be in an appointment and later finish two tasks but prefer to stay home at the comfort of my room and write about it :D Delegation is my next step to conquer this boredom.

- Susan Boyle gave a new live illustration and a new definition to "NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER" I was impressed by her performance and voice :) and loved her confidence. I thank a friend for dragging my attention to Britain's got talent and this lady in particular.

The hectic crazy routine will not end any time soon, on the contrary I just got assigned to a new project and I will be happy if I can find peace in the weekend :)

أستغرب من اللي يتعدون الزحمة و يدشون حارة الأمان "بدون وجه حق ولا لحاجة ملحة" علشان يتعدون خلق الله اللي واقفين بنظام و بالدور و حترمين نفسهم و غيرهم، و كأن الدنيا خلت من الناس و النظام و المشاغل و تفرغت لهم! و بقدرة قادر اصبحت لهم الأولوية على الغير و اصبح التقليل من إحترام الغير شطارة!؟

Flipping through my almost finished moleskin I found a lot of memories, tasks, food orders, shops and galleries to visit, events to attend, I realized for a moment there that how crucial written documentation is! Documenting life or what we see in it I think is one of mankind's messages in life.

أمس في حديث ما طرت لي هالأبيات، و افتاحيتها "نتمنى و في التمني شقاء" و على الرغم من اني متفائلة بشكل عام و احب الامنيات لانها تحفز الانسان على الانجاز و خصوصا لو كان له نظرة واقعية في للأمور اللي تجري حوله و هم خطة عمل يمشي عليها علشان ينجز اللي ايتمناه، و ساعات هالواقع يصحيك و يقولك بصراحة ان امنياتك غير قابلة للتحقيق و ذلك نظرا لعدم توافق الشروط المقيدة لمساحة التطبيق فعليك اما انت تغير الأمنية او مساحة التطبيق! لكننا كبشر لا نرى حاجز المستحيل كافٍ ليثنينا عن التمني، فإن كان به شقاء ام لا فنحن نحب التمني

Kuwaiti National Assembly Elections 2009

The Kuwaiti national Assembly (Parliament) elections came after a dissolving decree from Kuwait's ruler Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah, that was justified by the lack of cooperation between the National Assembly and the Government. The most surprising in the 2009 elections was the winning of 4 women (from 3 different districts, out of 5 districts). Women in Kuwait were granted their political rights in 2005, and in 2006 elections were held but no woman won any of the 50 chairs in the parliament, now in 2009 FOUR women made it!

The women elected to the 50-member national assembly in Kuwait are, from left, Aseel al-Awadi, Rola Dashti, Salwa al-Jassar and Massouma al-Mubarak. Women gained the right to vote and run for office in 2005, but Islamists urged voters not to elect any.

These 4 Kuwaiti women are the first to make it to the parliament and by that they are placed in the first line of decision making and are official speakers of the people in Kuwait and the Gulf countries, however with this lovely achievement the over all newly elected members in the up coming National Assembly are not so different from the previous ones, there are changes and very surprising results for the increase & decrease in the popularity of some very old candidates who used to be in the top ranks, I personally do not have my hopes up but wish for the best and wish for this parliament to last longer than the one proceeding it.

In my personal opinion the two biggest highlights in the 2009 elections are the women wining 4 chairs, for the first time will enter our National Assembly, and the Kuwaiti people's wish for change that reflects their hopes for ending the increasing uncooperative relation between the Government and the National Assembly.

I am very proud of the winning of four Kuwaiti women and hope for more awareness and focus towards the really important issues that will make a new brighter Kuwaiti future.

علشان الكويت

بجهود شبابية بسيطة و قلوب مشبعة بالكثير من حب الكويت قام موقع و حملة "علشان الكويت" في زخم الحزازيات و الفرقة التي تشق الوحدة الوطنية و التازيم ما بين السلطتين التشريعية و التنفيذية تأتي مجموعة من شباب الكويت المحب لهذا الوطن ليذكروا الكل بأن الكويت هي ضميرك بلسان ذوي الخبرة

و تستمر تلك الجهود لتحذيرنا من العنصرية



و تذكيرنا و تعريفنا بمعايير اختيار مرشحي مجلس الأمة



و أخيرا و ليس آخرا محاربة السلبية



و هي الرسالة الأهم في هذه الايام! مع حالة الملل التي يعيشها الشعب الكويتي من التأزيم و مع اغراء الورقة البيضاء "و اهنيه انا قاعده اتحرش بماد م٢٠٠٠ و بو جيج" فلا اؤيد اليأس و العزوف عن الترشيح، كما نقول "الشق عود" و التغيير لن يحصل بين يوم و ليلة، و لكن للكويت علينا حق و علينا ان نقف بجانبها و نسعى للأفضل ولا نسمح لليأس بالتسلل لقلوبنا فمازالت الكويت جميلة ولا يجوز ان نتخلى عنها و من اجدر منا ككويتيين ليساند الكويت؟

الخطوة الأولى هي الوقوف بجانب الدستور، و الترشيح بنزاهة لكي لا نسمح لمن يرى مصلحته فوق الوطن بأن ينفرد بصناديق الاقتراع! التراجع هو تسهيل لمهمة من يريدون دمار الوطن و بناء ال"أنا" و الفئوية و شق الصف. الإقدام على الترشيح هو واجب وطني و الأوجب منه هو ما بعد انتخاب المجلس....

بعد فشل مجلسنا السابق بتمثيل الأمة! فعلينا ان نعي لخطورة ما نحن فيه، فان كنا نرشح و من ثم نذم بمجلسنا الذي رشحناه اذن الخلل قابع فينا! و ان صلح اختيارنا فحتى المكائد و الفساد لن يتمكن منا و من مجلسنا ولا من حكومتنا، و ان تمكن من الحكومة فلنا مجلس يراقب و يوجه....

الخطوة الثانية و الأهم هي بناء المواطن الكويتي و زرع روح المواطنة و إعادة تعريف الشعب بها، فكلنا راع و مسئول عن رعيته. و ما يلي بناء الفرد هو مراجعة المجلس بكافة تحركاته و بالأخص متابعة من يدخل المجلس للتنفيع و نخر جسد هذا البلد بالفساد، فكم كويتي فكر بمراجعة محاظر اجتماعات المجلس بدلا من متباعة ما تكتبه الصحف؟ و هي متاحة للكل بموقع مجلس الأمة


الترشيح و عدمه خيار، و انا اخترت ان اكون ايجابية و ان ارشح و ان لا اتخلى عن الكويت لاني احبها

AKS - عكس

AKS is a group of independent Kuwaiti film makers, lovely talents gathered in a rather odd name that stands up to get your attention, the small 3 letter word provoked my curiosity of why AKS in particular, yet I never thought of asking them why AKS, sometimes the charm in leaving some blanks here and there is enjoyable.

From the documentary Occupation 101 I knew about Cinemagics and since then started attending the screenings they hold, when ever I can, I must say it has been and is a great joy! In the future I will write more about it to promote such an amazing opportunity to see the art of movie making from all over the world and not only from Hollywood.

Last Saturday was a very special screening night, 4 Kuwaiti short movies were screened, it was an enjoyable evening and event, here goes my review of the 4 movies:

1. The Sniper - القناص : by Dawood Shuail

It's the shortest in run time, yet enjoyable, the story revolves around a sniper caught in a cat and mouse chaise, and it reminded me of "Enemy at the Gates" it was a very simple movie, it can be elaborated more I wished for it to be longer, but المخرج عاوز كده :) and I totally respect that and enjoyed the movie.

1. Hosha - هوشة : by Faisal Al-Duwaisan

Fisal Al-Duwaisan is a pro in photography I have seen his work in P2BK, and in many scattered places around the net. In Hosha the cinematography is amazing, you will be stunned of the level of professionalism and well use of light and technology! The trailer says a lot about that. The story is simple and touching, also an enjoyable movie.

1. Just Human - مجرد إنسان : by Omar Al-Masab

It's more like a preview of what is next in Omar Al-Masab trilogy of a trip to explore the human being, its a simple animated movie, all what you see is simple black and white sketches, a perfect color combination that diverts the attention to the ideas displayed, no distractions what so ever. My full judgment will complete when the trilogy does too, but I can say that I have high hopes in whats next. Me likey.

1. Banana - موز : by Meqdad Al-Kout

Is probably the longest in run time. The trailer is very simple compared to how complex the movie is and how controversial it was in the reviews from Kuwait and from the interview with the director in an Egyptian magazine. The performance of Nizar Al-Qandi, the hidden humble actor/artist with many talents, is very impressive, he played a part that took out a lot of his potentials out loud, and yes he can make you hate him, sympathize with him and not just laugh with him. Although its a short movie but it has a lot of depth in it, idea wise, symbolism was strongly used in it and many messages were sent with in the movie. Yes it's not easy for our community to accept such a movie but on the other hand he does display a lot of matters that are kept at the end in our list of interests! In the time with the consistent need for us to shed light on them instead of hiding them. I certainly enjoyed the movie very much.

About the controversy made by Banana I say that movies send a message! Some might say that when actors / directors describe their work as messages to the community, they really don't mean it! But I say yes most of them do, and Al-Kout certainly does! Art can make us think and provoke our community. We are human, we will never be prone to anything in this universe, one day we are very happy and every thing is clear, but what the next day hides is unknown and it can carry many contradictions to the one proceeding it! Opening up and discussing our problems, finding solutions is far more better than keeping them hidden, hiding will one day turn them into a tumor that will eat us up. The movie is not suitable for young people and is a wake up call to discuss rather than hide the problems any man or woman can face when confronting their sexual identity and needs, and some people among us and around us face that confusion and may get lost in the process of surrendering to the idea of tabooing any thing related to sexuality.

Last but not least, the above 4 movies participated in the Gulf Film Festival held recently in Dubai, it is worth noting that there are other Kuwaiti (co-Kuwaiti) movies that participated in the festival and the winners from Kuwait are:

Terrible writer's block!

It hit me for two weeks or so :/ I can not write anything! I have a lot to say and write about but can not get into the act of actually typing anything!

The main and most direct reason is the extreme exhaustion I feel after work, the end of any fiscal year and the beginning of a new one is always loaded with work. Therefore when I come home I have the minimal amount of ability to sit with the family and catch up then its either reading or watching DVDs, and its mostly watching those days, reading is becoming a hard activity, too much concentration is needed.

However today I decided to go out with my self and clear my head, hmm well that decision was assisted with the lack of interest for those around me towards my favorite activities. Nevertheless I came with a less distracted mind and the will to write again :D I will not guarantee any charming posts but they will be a lot :D inshallah.
