From here and there

The death of Gaddafi has taken the front pages and news by a storm, as did his life and Libyan's struggle to end his era. I am happy they won, and I am VERY sorry for their pain and culture of pain that they had to suffer during his ruling. I am also realistic in terms that this culture wont fade away very soon and the sight of his picture dead filled with blood is not so harmful to many he has harmed, for those I am very sorry that their souls had been contaminated with such darkness. I hope they, with time, will enjoy peace and justice.

Weather is amazing this weekend, enjoy it to the max, as this winter looks charming, I don't know why I have this feeling, but I sense it will be a good one. I hope it rains, I miss standing under the rain enjoying the fresh water and cool breeze, a slight chill goes through my skin making me feel... alive :}

Spoon Bending Seminar

Do you recall this post? So I decided to join the Spoon Bending Seminar, although I NEVER liked such things NOR liked those self improvement books, the how to ones?! I don't know those two subject seemed to be a turn off for me. Yet the idea of bending a spoon was funny and attracting to me and what is life with out trying everything?

That day that I paid Better Books a visit I registered in the Spoon Bending Seminar, to see whats the hype is about, since I found a lot of stuff online that confused me and many around me doubted the spoon bending issue, and some gave me the impression that it could be a trick or something to waste your money on.

I went in a bit late and was happy to know they are familiar with the Kuwaiti time :> it was a cozy 20 something people gathering, very relaxed laid back and friendly! The owner is so simple and honest that she allowed me in based on my word that I paid the cost "forgot to bring the receipt along!" She was interested with the activity more than anything.

So we got our spoons, after a short talk the seminar revolved around making us:

Relax
Concentrate
Bond
then.......
BEND!

You can see my result down here :>

Actually the bending was quite easy for me its the twisting that I wanted to pull off well, I wanted a swirly spoon or fork! But I got the one in this picture as the best trial to "twist" :p

The big picture is not about bending the spoon, it was about having a "Physical manifestation of connecting with your energy" as Bobby the seminar lecturer said. The ideas storming in my head were enormous! I will try to write some of them :} if they dont make much sense just comment and lets see how I can make them easier:

- Your energy field aka Aura is THERE, use it
- There is more to your mental and physical power, and its right there! You don't have to take the word of anyone on it, concentrate and find it inside
- Fear, other negative feelings we might grasp along our life, stop us from achieving, be daring and just do it

I had fun :} and I have new things to keep in my room :p

Sami Mohammed the artist, the art!

I went to Sami Mohammad art exhibition, and found the most amazing surprise Sami Mohammad himself, had the most enlightening and easy conversation ever! A true artist, down to earth and eager to let everyone know about his art and what it means.....

This sculpture has a strong message written on it that explains Sami Mohammad's art, "freedom for those who have NO voice". He said, I paint from our reality, I sculpt our suffering, the human being in this region "the Arabic world/ middle east" is SUFFERING , Bronze is a metal that stays for hundreds of years, that is the age Sami Mohammad wants his art to live for if not more. Even if we vanish, this art will stay to tell our story and show how human beings have suffered, as he said to me.  We suffered in the Invasion didn't we?! He asked me strongly when I was a bit calm when I accepted his information about "why pain?" and explained his vision of how through his art he tries to send a timeless message

Sami's work varies between sculptures and paintings, I used to lean towards his sculptures although I liked some of his surreal paintings, however, in this exhibition I fell in LOVE with his paintings more than I thought I would! This is the Red side of his "Sadhoweyat" that comes from the traditional Arabic art of wool weaving called "sadhow" that is made into various materials used by the Bedouins in the Gulf region to make furniture/covers/tents ...etc. He inserted this beautiful traditional art into his work in many amazing ways :}

This is the darker, blue and blak'ish corner of his recent Sadhoweyat

Now this is the sculpture that originally made me LOVE Sami Mohammed its called "Paralysis & Resistance" it made me think how can someone get this brutal scene of a person with a scarf through his eyes and with such a terrible scream to look so .... touching! It made my heart ache just by seeing it, which made me realize how powerful his art is, and there, just like that I fell for his work!

This one I can't type in English :} since its my blog I can type in both languages :p and you have google translation to assist you :>

This one attracted my attention the most :)

I have attended several art exhibitions, this is the first one that I attend "after the opening" and the artist is present and I have the guts to speak to him :> It was a remarkable conversation that I do not want to share fully since I didn't document it and don't want to write inaccurate information , yet it will remain the most touching one, it came from an artist that I adore and his work relates to my culture FULLY! Also when he spoke about his work I got attached more than ever with his mentality and amazing creativity.... Thank you Sami Mohammad the artist, thank you for this art and a HUGE thank you to Gallery Tilal for hosting such an amazing local artist :}

Sami Mohammad -

I am very sorry for the delay in writing this post about the exhibition for the Kuwaiti artist Sami Mohammad held in Gallery Telal , its still ongoing and will end at the 13th of this month ,, Will have another post about it once I visit it and I will talk more about Sami Mohammed the Kuwaiti artist that attracted me with his sculptures

Dates                                         :  2nd – 13th October 2011
Name of the Exhibition          :  Sami Mohammad Exhibition

Sami Mohammad remains faithful to the subject of “Humanity”. The human tragedy, human suffering and suppression and man’s quest for freedom, love and peace.  Although the subject has been used before Sami Mohammad made a conscious rebirth and interpretation of the topic.  His ability to tell the history of many nations around the world in wordless sculptures is commendable.

This exhibition unifies mankind recognizing man’s basic need, freedom.  His artwork roars with “Rage of Pride” demanding the elimination of the aggressor and restoration of man’s free will!

Kuwaiti Artist Sami Mohammad (art creativity), born in 1943 in a region east of Kuwait. He studied sculpture at the Fine Arts College in 1970, and obtained an honoring diploma from Cannes Sur La Mer in France in 1970. He is one of the founders of the Kuwaiti Association for Formative Arts established in 1967. He obtained several local and international awards, and was charged by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature with designing the encouraging state award in 1993 and designing and creating the honoring state award and medal in 2000.

He was granted the encouraging state award in 1999 by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature, and obtained a honoring and financial award at Tehran International Biennaial  for the year 2001, and executed a field project about the Kuwaiti woman in 2001.

'You've got to find what you love,' Steve Jobs

No, this is not another roundup of his life type of post, and frankly I was not intending to, except he may Allah rest his soul in peace made a remarkable speech in 2005 that I knew about from American Girl blog ... See and LISTEN well to what he said and below is my cometary

Here are excerpts from his speech that were really insightful ..

From the 1st story
"Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."
From the 2nd story
"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."
And from the 3rd story
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

The above is pretty much self-explanatory, I prefer celebrating people while they are alive rather than after they are gone from this life, but Steve's case was very unique. In terms of how much his life would have been different if he didn't find what he LOVED, if he didn't trust his heart, love remains to me with constant reminders from allover the world is the key to this life.

Live with love, do what you love, is the sentence I intended to close this post with. However, today of all days I came across how I miss represented my love, how in simple actions I conveyed my  thoughts in the form of "taking control and orders" to someone in particular and Allah knows who else in this world :} Although the message was conveyed to me in a great gentle way to carefully watch my feelings, yet seeing how I miss portrayed my self was painfully, good; felt like a pinch on the cheek LOL! To all of them out there, I am sorry. The next is how I decided to say my closure:

I will live with love, for love and do what I love, the choice of how you will live your life, is yours.
