Seeing double?

I once read that there is you, the person people see and who you think you are!

Between the two views the real you hides, where the person you think you are is merely your view of life crossing your actions and piled up definitions in your mind, in many times your definitions fail, for instance you might see it as pride when its ego or funny when in fact just vulgar, or the other side of the coin; when you think less of your self, when you define weight as a measure of beauty not health or being kind is naive.

What people see is like what you see, not only is it subject to false estimation it is also very close to who they really are. On a side note, please try not to judge and if you fail to resist the urge to judge, place the possibility of you being wrong, and also be kind!

I think, the best option is to find out who you really are, and you would be surprised that its the easiest, all you need is to think about your actions and why you chose those actions :} when was the last time you shutdown the auto-pilot within and stopped doing what you usually do? which is most probably what everyone else does...

A shadow

In many times I daydream while watching shadows, of people, trees or animals. The beauty of shadows lies in their ability to stretch & fade, depending on the light around it.. Very much like our personalities & our reaction to life circumstances .. Shades react, change constantly yet they remain in a circle of appearing & fading :} like the circle of life

The above was a comment in #ig and I though it fits to be a post.

The naked truth

The naked truth is always better than the best-dressed lie.”  ― Ann Landers via good reads

It was a whatsapp status for a friend, the quote above, instantly grabbed my attention. In principal I always prefer the truth, yet how strong am I if its NAKED! Also, how much or how often will I be able to say the truth?

I think the major reason to hide the truth or tell a lie is fear, yes devious manipulative people might prefer it to be a life stye, yet it goes back to their inability to face reality :} which is still fear. Even when you prefer the truth, if you are faced with a loved one the whole equation changes, your feelings towards them get in between!

In spite of fear, feelings or any other reason that might withhold the truth, why do we "not" say it? The truth is irreplaceable, unforgettable and is easier to live with, when did we become so complex and looked away from the truth?! Saying the truth should not only be the general rule or common practice, it should be a lifetime commitment. A quote I love says "Be truthful, gentle and fearless - Gandhi"  It sums up the whole equation of how can we say the truth? All you have to do is be truthful, gentle and fearless.

Be honest enough to say the truth from your heart, gentle in conveying that truth no matter how hard it is, and being gentle can be gained with practice. Fearless! The hardest of them, for me, what took away fear is the more convenient life I live in without lying! No extra burdens nor glitches to fix, because when you lie there are glitches that will face you later on which will need more lies to tone them,  yes I am not perfect nor you, the human who reads this. Unless you are one of the pros who mix lying with facts!! Then you probably need therapy :}

What provoked this post and got me back to my keyboard is someone dear to me, who was kind and understanding enough to accept my honesty, such people are distinct and are worth keeping, more than many others who prefer to hustle or play innocent while their inner hustler is acting behind the scenes.

You are more beautiful than you think

This video really moved me, how often do we see our selves, exactly how we really "are"? Its not only the issue of low self-esteem, its how fair are we towards our selves. Between neglecting yourself and filling it with ego, you move from one flaw to another, as human beings we are bound to be flaw-full, yet where do we draw the line?

The real question is how can we see our "real" selves? The mirror, the real one, the opinion of others. What this video exposed is how fairly the other can view us, especially strangers, those who are unprejudiced by knowing us. In other words, its not so bad to ask the opinion of others or see what they think of you, your actions or looks. Also, being criticized is not the end of the world :}

Survival .. Observing tiny plants!

On a random piece of land beside concrete & scattered junk, in an environment not set up for the growth of plants, this tiny plant existed! Apparently no matter how it "might" seem like an unfriendly plant environment, plants did grow and as tiny as they are, they were pretty :} wearing the most vivid green color I have seen in a long while in Kuwait.

Leaving me with a smile and admiration of how it managed to survive with FEW resources. Rain season in our climate is a very shy visitor, especially recently. How it managed to grow, and prosper is a thing that deserves a pause (YES I know scientifically its easily explainable but lets take a deeper look :p).

Where resources are found, things prosper, as well as people, that was the echo of the tiny plant survival idea, I instantly measured it to happenings around me. In spite of the fact that this plant did not ask the land nor landowner to exist (it just did!) and it bloomed to something pleasant :} and much missed in our environment. Why not take a pause and embrace things popping up?

Therefore, not all unplanned things are scary, they can be green and pretty :} Sure they might be misplaced, you can simply provide them with a new better place. The urge to survive is worth giving a hand, a gentle word or a smile :}

Gift ,, a smile

The fear of being misjudged or the thought of of someone thinking that I'm bragging, did not stop me from writing this post, at least not anymore! Once someone said to me " You are trying too hard / or much?" I forgot the last word :p it was said to me after "giving", time and simple gifts. Misjudgements and wrong views of our actions; are, inevitable! Yet the purpose behind this post is far more rewarding :} and priceless!

Yesterday, I had a small conversation with the coffee guy, he's the manager of a small coffee place close to my office, along with two subordinates, they feed us with caffeine everyday. He spoke about how hard work is and how their management is not providing a replacement to the third guy (his 2nd subordinate) during the conversation where he described how bad the employees morale becomes when management does not pay attention to them, his eyes touched me deeply, they were teary. It was only work, not an issue related to his family nor his health BUT he was that passionate about his work and how he is trying to put up a fight against management to facilitate more manpower to do work better. Ironically something similar occurred to me a while ago, but its not about me nor seeing a reflection of me, it was his teary eyes vs how he served us coffee with passion, he's never satisfied if a customer doesn't smile, checks on your opinion about the coffee and changes it the moment he "feels" your not satisfied. He is a dedicated and passionate person, who should only be happy.

Everyone deserves a good happy life, yet life it self is not fair and we face bumps, what if we helped some one by putting a smile on their face? Encourage them? Give kindness not charity?!

How?

A smile, a gentle gesture, a gift..

I'm very fond of this traditional sweet called "Samsamiyah" which is basically sesame seeds and sugar syrup. When I saw it today, he came to mind, aided by the latest IKEA buy :p small gift card-boxes. Simply fold and you have a box! Very handy for anyone who enjoys gift wrapping.

I can never get enough of making small gifts, that have no occasion, they have an AMAZING positive effect on people! I don't ever expect anything in return but a smile :} best return for kindness is kindness back and a smile.

Your gifts do not have to be physical, it could be a smile, a helping hand, a paper folded like a flower?! Be creative and simple or just google some DIY anyting, the idea is to not over burden yourself and others, enjoy life, enjoy their happiness.

Question is, when was the last time you made a simple small gesture to someone? :} Do it more often, its good. Enjoy giving.

P.S.: Giving can set you loose from getting too attached to things! Rather than people.

Moleskine love

Almost done with my red one which i held for a loooong while since 2009! Mainly because of digital note writing means, available in my handheld / computer / tablet you name it.

Going to the Venice one (or as it says Venezia,, trying to be a bit Italian r here) is very exciting, I'm thrilled to use it, has a map (for my trip there one day!), pen holder & its lined!! A huge mercy for who wants to read my handwriting.

Yes in talking about a small note book. Now back to the post.

Sketching was the biggest benefit of having a paper note all the time, now that I'm working on a Fashion design project I have been literally eating the pages off of it. And no digital drawing apps are not my thing, even with the pen thingie.

Using hand & pen still has an amazing charm. I often get drifted while writing to focus on the reactions, hand & body movement, capture of the brain storm moments on paper, I find all of that very fascinating :)

The idea of uniting man with the simple man-made tools to 'express & do' what we want is everywhere and is a great pride bearer to nations, question that attacks me all the time when I drift with this idea:

What did we give to Humanity?
What did we give to earth/ our country?

P.S.: Venice note was a wonderful gift from a lovely person, I shall take the note as an invitation to see Venice, before I'm done with it.

Random thoughts on picks

Pick your fights

In life time is limited, life it self is limited by time, time has the upper hand, if we don't pick our fights well, we can become very good time waters. Main things to consider before entering a fight:

Can I see my aim out of it's circle, is it avoidable?
Is it repeated?
Value of the outcome, is it really worth it?

A dear friend used to ask me after every discussion "So who won? you or me?" my answer then, now, and forever will remain, BOTH! A fight is not a win-lose issue only, this is the proposal made by the general mentality people have, but a win-win situation is always a gain :}

If your side doesn't make it, find out why it didn't and that's your gain, even if some might consider you a "loser" you actually won!

If your side makes it, you gained someone else that considers your way/idea/mentality (will use idea for ease onwards) is right! BUT if you didn't get any gaps on your side, be very aware, nothing is perfect, perfection to us human beings is subjective.

I consider exposing your idea to different mentalities is a gain in all forms (typical: winning/losing), if its not right and didn't spread you should know why, and improve it. If you find gaps about it or in it, try closing them and look to your idea from that prospective "the gap finding one".

Don't repeat your fights, don't go through fights with the same mentalities they have with the same mentality you have! Do it smarter or simply don't. Finally do not focus on hearing "YES YOU WON" rather than winning on actual grounds :} Winning people's respect and tolerance is also important.

Pick your view

Instagram the latest addiction of mine, is a perfect example of how people "see" things, out of the least noticeable angles comes beauty. All over the accounts in that application you see how people interact with photography! By documentation, advertisement, spreading of Art or ideas, you name it.. In a way, more than writing in twitter or a blog, instgram or image publishing all in all, shows you really how people see life. So you can see beauty in almost everything, lower the bad or ugly and increase the pretty and good :}

Stripping a week in 2012

It's already the 8th of January, a whole week passed by from this year. It has been a busy week, with a lot of ups and downs, which I stripped.

*Disclaimer: heavy post ahead!*

How to define the up and down in your life, its all about how you see things really. The down moment, for example when you lose something, is actually a way to avoid that loss in the future, a peek into what you will feel when you lose, and if you think well, you will know the new path of what's "after" that loss.

So is a down moment really down? No :} When you get benefit from something, even if at the moment was bad, that benefit flips the coin! And when something good happens, enjoy it to the max, repeat it and enhance the goodness in it.

Sounds a bit vague? Lets try an example.

The death of Steve Jobs, to Apple they lost a leader with a vision, to the world a man that provoked the technology urge within everyone, young or old. It is a loss, a great one. What did we gain? His life's lessons, his amazing products and his success. What he left is timeless :) In this example you can focus on the loss or the gain, the loss itself did not produce "all" that gain but it drew attention to the man he was, how he reached that level of success and I am sure many who did not know him at all now do, a lot who knew little about him (me among them) now know more and only a few consider what they knew a treasure. Take every piece of information for granted and you will gain MORE than you think, with the least "experimental" effort.

So other than the scale of good and bad, what was there for me in that first week. Clouds! Loads of them :}

I can't leave the house with out taking a look up, I have to see the sky, its a joy that I can't really skip. Within one day, you can see how often does it change, now the most enjoyable time of the year for me, because the clouds are the cherry on top. I love them and the FLUFFY ones are my favorite.

One of the main lessons that I get from the sky, day after day, is that "The only constant is change - by Heraclitus". With in 24 hours, a single day of your life, the sky can move from clear and sunny, to cloudy and maybe a bit rainy! Like today :)

What if we stripped every piece of information/ event/ story we stumble upon in our daily life?

With the graph above I illustrate an idea that I have always had, I am a limited entity in this world! Limited with time, space around me, my own physical being (abilities) and what I compile in my visual/verbal or general memory! Therefore, the collection of ideas I have is also limited, even when my imagination works, it breaks a few boundaries I live in, hence my imagination is also limited (to the boundaries I know and break!).

In light of the above I developed a concept of stripping ideas, going to the general line or statement it gives me and apply it to different issues in life. So given that "the only constant is change" that I see on a daily basis in the sky, people's behavior, climate and time change, I would be very unreasonable to want things to remain as they are! A moment of sorrow to remain as it is, a moment of joy too!!

However, somethings are irreversible, like time, once it passes it can't go back "so far! Time travel have not been proven/ practiced yet!"

Consider everything, reevaluate, get the bottom-line of it, keep it as a collectable idea in your memory and use it, you will be surprised of how "less" of experiences you need to go through in your life. Nonetheless, living requires experience and experience is molded with challenges in life.

Never fear a challenge, it is a GREAT sculpture tool for experience and intelligence :} But never go into an experience or a challenge that you KNOW the outcome of.

New year resolution

A friend today asked me about my new year resolutions, I realized that I don't have any!

I do have plans and things to accomplish but didn't really setup a timeline for them, didn't link them to this year, nor were my previous ones were linked to "time", they are just dreams waiting to be achieved or have been achieved. You see the "dreams" I have are never ending, its an ongoing process.

Which made me think, yes its good to have an outlook, a wish, a path to go by in this life, BUT setting your aims with a timeline is also practical :)

Some of the things that popped to mind in that conversation, had a timeline and I can see them being achieved very soon, while in others I left the timeline space to be blank. I have always counted on my mind to store them and bit by bit I see them get achieved, which I am fine with, but inserting the "time" factor would do me good :}

Therefore, as of now, in addition to writing down those things I aim to do in my moleskine, I will add the timeline :>

#RandomThought

At many times, in Twitter, I tend to write a few random thoughts that come across my mind, the bad thing about Twitter is that it stores up to 3,000 tweets in your timeline! Including replies and RTs, and there is no easy archiving way to go back to your tweets!!
I use the hashtag #RandomThought to write and scatter a few, here and there in time, in my timeline. So for the sake of documenting, I decided to write them down in a post :} The following are tweets labeled with #RandoumThough from my timeline, in various points of time and some other tweets that I count as random thoughts.....

When you miss who you thought they were, you don't really miss them.. So, fix your brains! #RandomThought

  الاصل بالوقت أنه محايد، نمنحه لمن/ما نريد، فلا تعلق وقتك بمن لا 'يملك' وقت لك #فكرة_عابرة

When you look back and can't find good memories, you should stop looking back!

When you look back and do fine good memories, cherish them, plan to create more :>

Wanting something, is not a guarantee that it's good for you :} #RandomThought

When sarcasm covers your bitter reality, you are strong & funny, when you forget that reality, you become ignorant. #RandomThought

I thank the man who taught me that loss is a part of life, Black isn't a proof of solace, moving on with a good memory is faith #Myfather

If you can't find the time, you simply don't care :} #RandomThought

When putting your faith into a theory, remember, its only a "possible" interpretation :} & 100% is an exaggeration of 99.9 :>

Even if your doubt is 99.9% confirmed NEVER forget that the 0.1% can flip the whole outcome of you actions :}

'You've got to find what you love,' Steve Jobs

No, this is not another roundup of his life type of post, and frankly I was not intending to, except he may Allah rest his soul in peace made a remarkable speech in 2005 that I knew about from American Girl blog ... See and LISTEN well to what he said and below is my cometary

Here are excerpts from his speech that were really insightful ..

From the 1st story
"Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."
From the 2nd story
"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle."
And from the 3rd story
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

The above is pretty much self-explanatory, I prefer celebrating people while they are alive rather than after they are gone from this life, but Steve's case was very unique. In terms of how much his life would have been different if he didn't find what he LOVED, if he didn't trust his heart, love remains to me with constant reminders from allover the world is the key to this life.

Live with love, do what you love, is the sentence I intended to close this post with. However, today of all days I came across how I miss represented my love, how in simple actions I conveyed my  thoughts in the form of "taking control and orders" to someone in particular and Allah knows who else in this world :} Although the message was conveyed to me in a great gentle way to carefully watch my feelings, yet seeing how I miss portrayed my self was painfully, good; felt like a pinch on the cheek LOL! To all of them out there, I am sorry. The next is how I decided to say my closure:

I will live with love, for love and do what I love, the choice of how you will live your life, is yours.

Stranger than fiction [2006] - Effect review

This is not an ordinary movie review, it is a bit more spicy, it is about how a movie has moved and provoked a lot in me .... If you haven't seen the movie, this post is a HUGE spoiler!!

Pic source

The story in short is about a man in this world called Harold Crick played by Will Ferrel, who finds out that he is a part of some novelist's new work! His life is being crafted by her, Kay Eiffel played by the Emma Thompson! He doubts his mental state until he was able to reach her, his aid to get some reason out of this case he's facing is Dr. Jules Hilbert played by Dustin Hoffman "who has  GREAT office in the movie, loved the windows although am fond of big ones but they were nice! OK now back to my review". The movie is very interesting with the idea and perspective of what if a person writes the life of another! leaving that other without a choice but to go along as they wrote. Eventually Harold gets the scrip Kay is writing and tells her that he likes it and doesn't want her to change it, although he knows he will die in her story. Then she decides to change the story ending to a happy one. The cherry on top for me and the most enjoyable part of the movie is the ending line said by Kay Eiffel:

Kay Eiffel: As Harold took a bite of Bavarian sugar cookie, he finally felt as if everything was going to be ok. Sometimes, when we lose ourselves in fear and despair, in routine and constancy, in hopelessness and tragedy, we can thank God for Bavarian sugar cookies. And, fortunately, when there aren't any cookies, we can still find reassurance in a familiar hand on our skin, or a kind and loving gesture, or subtle encouragement, or a loving embrace, or an offer of comfort, not to mention hospital gurneys and nose plugs, an uneaten Danish, soft-spoken secrets, and Fender Stratocasters, and maybe the occasional piece of fiction. And we must remember that all these things, the nuances, the anomalies, the subtleties, which we assume only accessorize our days, are effective for a much larger and nobler cause. They are here to save our lives. I know the idea seems strange, but I also know that it just so happens to be true. And, so it was, a wristwatch saved Harold Crick. [from IMDB]

The quote above is the most touching part of the whole movie, it sums up all the story and gives us a simple message that life, no matter how complex we make or see it, in the end it goes back to the simple basics! Happiness in life is not so hard, and hope is always there, we can see beauty or look away from it, it is our choice really :}

So for the sake of a happy life that I wish everyone, notice the simple things in your life, take them for granted and appreciate them while you can.

No matter what is your work field or interest in life, weather its school or work or social interests, creativity is a MUST, its the root of all greatness in life, creativity opens the doors for you to do what you want in unconventional ways that can make others around you happy and creative by effect or more enthusiastic about life in general, those 29 things are defiantly not obligatory but are VERY good to try :} I've always thought that seeing new things and exploring life creates creativity, so for a change do something new, look up something new and change how you do everyday things around you! Do some of the 29 if not all :)

The power of twitter!

Pic from businesspundit.com

Twitter did not only steal me from my blog, but from my family and the TV! I'm there and thinking of linking it to my blog on the side bar at least :}

It became the source of up-to-date information, and its availability on the mobile at all times, made it even more likable! You can send a message to the world at ANYTIME while being ANYWHERE, skipping the blog editing time/content search, with a limit of 140 characters you HAVE to get your point through, brainstorming your ideas into a line or two is amazing. I have learned a lot from it. Yes it might occasional turn into a debate/chat, but this is part of the internet interaction, similar to having comments and replying to those comments might go back & forth. However it wins with the time factor, if two users are there and tweet the communication is more efficient.

Unlike the TV where you have to be present in front of it, or a newspaper you have to go through all of it, or a debate with the family which has to be present in the same place at once, Twitter raised the communication ease bar! Communication is simpler, and due to the fact that it is Micro-blogging, I immediately fell in love with it! There is a HUGE love affair between me & blogging.

You simply follow the ones who interest you, and the ones who don't :} the ones who agree with you and the ones who don't. I think that to be fair and just, to form a fair opinion, follow both sides of the discussion, weather you like them or not, keep an open mind & chill :} "I tweeted that :p it was the seed of this post!"

Analyzing people, or now as they say tweeps, through who you follow is very UNFAIR, because you might follow people you might not agree with, but are very interesting & have something to say, not approving ones opinion does not lower the importance of what they have to say & VS, liking someone or agreeing with them does not mean they will ALWAYS think/say what you approve of! Therefore, the solution is to be open minded, take things as simple as they are and open up to the world ... TWEET :}

Moving to the title, not only Twitter but also the social media as a whole, the huge Facebook that is rowing by the day! and now Twitter, are playing a HUGE role in communication, the recent Egypt 25th of January revolution proved it on real ground. Speaking of which Wael Ghonim is on twitter, a person worth reading for.

Random thoughts

(1)
Today was the most crazy day I had in 2010, I was spontaneous in a way beyond my imagination LOL and it was amazing! I took a leap and landed on a flower-full hill, THANK GOD. It felt good, to let go, followed my feelings instead of the usual think/analyze/plan fuss, I have to say that I also was very lucky :p feeling good.

(2)
Among the many thoughts I had today, that I need to stop running, go away from the picture of my life, take a good look what do I want to REALLY do and how.

(3)
Nothing is more beautiful than nature! or a kid's smile, how often do we go see simple things and enjoy them? Take a look above every morning :> the sky is lovely lately.

:)

شكراً

Sea Gull(s)

Stopped to take a few pictures by the sea side, saw a few people sitting here and there, some alone others with company. When I saw those two sea gulls, I thought about the people coming to talk to the sea, complain from life or happenings in their life to the sea, an idea adopted by humanity a long time ago "talking to the sea, that is". And I wondered are we gulling the sea or our selves?

Things in life do happen sometimes in a way we can not control or stop, but we can always act! We are the main derivative of change and through time human beings changed the course of history. Asking the sea what have you done to deserve this or that! Is a reversed question, you should ask your self what is going on! Think of the actions/ events/ happenings mostly upsetting you and brake them down, solve your problems, with the help of the presence of a lovely thing as the sea :)

And if you are MAKING your life messier you BETTER stop :] re-asses the situation and act towards what will make you happy. life is a circle, do not trap your self in a triangle.
